Pinellas Park, FL (May 14, 2012) Family Resources, Inc. is actively helping to prevent child sexual abuse and helping to minimize the impact on an estimated 40 million victims in the U.S. by hosting an upcoming “Stewards of Children” Authorized Facilitator workshop underwritten by the Northeast Exchange Club of St. Petersburg.
The workshop is scheduled for June 7, 2012 from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm and the Instructor will train and authorize facilitators to present Stewards of Children workshops in agencies and around the community. The Stewards of Children program is the only nationally recognized, evidence-based curriculum that educates and empowers adults using 7 steps to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program was created by Darkness To Light (D2L), an international non-profit headquartered in Charleston, SC dedicated to the prevention of child sexual abuse through public education and awareness. Research shows that one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18. In the U.S. alone, it is estimated that 40 million Americans are victims of child sexual abuse.
Since its founding, D2L has created ongoing public education programs in 47 states and 10 foreign countries. Stewards of Children trainings form a grass roots push at the community level to educate parents, youth serving organizations, youth sports leagues and coaches, faith centers and teachers / school leaders.
